far and away

My new passport arrived today.

I always say that I want to travel, but I never really do anything about it. I take my "travel" time and often go visit friends and family. And I enjoy doing this. I want to do this. But it doesn't leave much opportunity for exploration. Leaving the country.

I've always found some excuse to not make the plans. To not just go. I have no money. I have no time (see above). But I should really just do it. Go somewhere. One year passing doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's a slippery slope. I don't want to constantly be saying "Next year. I'll go next year." I don't want to have kids and say "Well, once they're older." I don't want to look back and wonder why the hell I just didn't pick up and go. Now is the time.

I've debated putting this up here because once it's posted I'll be held accountable, I'll need to actually make plans, but...

In the next year (so realistically, next summer) I want to travel somewhere. Europe probably, but that's highly flexible. I'd prefer not to do this on my own, and really I may punk out if I don't have a travel companion, but I want to do this. I feel I need to do this.

So, here I am announcing the plans and seeking someone (or someones) who wants to make this happen with me.

I mean, I went and took a new passport picture. Can't let that go to waste.

  2. I am exactly what you have feared becoming. I have been planning my trip to Europe since I was 8. I have "almost" gone 6 times since 1999. Something has always come up. England was cancelled 2 years in a row. I'm starting to feel that if I don't go next summer, I'll be 50 and still wishing that I had made it. I already regret not going on the post-graduation European trip. My top 2 right now are Germany and Italy. I've been planning a low-budget, hostel-hopping trip. let me know.
